Where We Produce

We strive for a production under the fairest conditions for people and the planet. Choosing where we produce has been a key component while building the brand. We truly believe that communicating the whys and hows of our choices will create a better understanding of the background and story, you will find deep-seated in every BYADÈLE item.

Philippines

Adèle has always been interested in transparency this shifting from the known to the unknown, both hiding and revealing. Adèle first went to the Philippines looking for pineapple fiber after doing some research on natural water-resistant fabrics. The Philippines is known for its vast biodiversity as well as weaving techniques that have been around for generations that vary greatly depending on location. Adèle was drawn to the pineapple textiles that are mixed with silk to create the traditional Barong shirts that were worn during the Spanish Colonial period. Through her chance encounter with Raquel, Felix, and Lisa, Adèle has connected with their families who have been embroidering and creating piña fiber for generations and is an art form that is really not practiced in this way anywhere else in the world. Together they went through the process of creating and collaborating together to this day making one of a kind embroidery designs on piña for BYADÈLE.

Afghanistan

When traveling to India, Adèle met a fabrics trader whose family has been around for generations working with vintage fabrics and cloth. Bashir, the trader, is actually from Afghanistan outside of Kabul and has many family connections that go back generations. From the moment they met, it was an instant connection, drinking tea and eating nuts. Having spent time in her last job working directly with artisans and makers in Afghanistan and having spent much of per time coordinating production and keeping up to date on the political climate she felt drawn to work in the country again. Continuing to build off of the relationships that were set in place after working there for two years. Part of sustainability is continued employment. All of our hand embroidered labels are currently made in Afghanistan and we have aimed to developer more work there in the seasons to come.

India

On her trips to India Adèle fall in love with the textiles there and the great history that is interwoven through the making of cloth and what that means for the country on a revolutionary level. Textiles have carried religion, culture, pattern, food, money, and inspiration across boarders. Woven deftly into the fine cloth. Having sourced fabrics in India for many projects Adèle was always struck by the vast amounts of vintage and overstock material that was piled behind closed doors in cities with colourful walls. These fabrics, though not always “perfect” have beauty in their own-right and are adapted for collections and items. Some are over-dyed and some are left as is, flaunting the preexisting color or showing the marks of its past history. Currently, BYADÈLE is combining natural dyes, overstock fabrics, and nonviolent silks as some of the items and processes currently sourced in India.

Germany

Located in the heart of Berlin, you can find the core team of BYADÈLE which is formed by different freelancers, creatives, photographers, and Adèle. This is not only where the ideas flow into patterns and where the natural dying of overstock fabric happen, but it is also the home to our showroom and office. Where we dutifully answer e-mails, planing future collaborations, coordinate the happenings and photoshoots, put in all of the work that happens “behind the scenes”, and pack up your orders and send them all over the world. Berlin is a constant source of inspiration, it is a city that has taken on many forms and has played a huge roll in history, and has now been re-claimed by a younger spirt of artists and designers, however the heavy collective memory seeped within the walls and buildings and burnished into the architecture that lines the streets is something that Adèle has always been intrigued by, what is shown, but not seen. It is Adèle’s home by choice and a hub for the BYADÈLE brand.
